Babylonstoren is situated in the scenic Western Cape wine growing area, 17 kilometres from Franschhoek and 9 kilometres from Paarl. This 250 hectare working farm is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms of the area, surrounded by the dramatic Simonsberg and Franschhoek Mountains. Dating back to 1690, the original farm structures are beautifully preserved, reflecting the simplified Cape Dutch architecture of the era, with white washed walls and thick thatched roofs.

There are 5 rooms in the Manor House, which is booked on a totally exclusive use basis. The rest of the cottages and suites are scattered around the grounds. There are 5 one bedroom suites, which are set in a common building, while the 2 one-bedroom cottages and the 4 two-bedroom cottages are all free standing buildings, adorned with simple gables. The interiors are a symphony in white and glass, lending the farmhouse features such as deep red brick fireplaces, shuttered windows and open-beamed roofs a stylized edge. The rooms have a charmingly simple Protestant approach typical of that time, which belies the high definition TV's, ducted air conditioning, under floor heating and DVD players found in every suite. All the cottages have the added feature of a fully equipped stainless steel kitchen.

The buildings comprise the main residence, an old cellar, the koornhuis (where wheat and hay was stored), a row of service buildings, a bell tower, an ornate fowl pen and a dove cote. The magnificent gardens incorporate an ever changing seasonal veriaty of organic citrus, vegetables, herbs and vines, and the disused kraal was converted into the Babel Restaurant, which serves the freshest and healthiest breakfasts, using ingredients directly out of the gardens.

The focus of this farm is the diverse garden, with beautiful pagolas defining the different "rooms". There is an indigenous section, a meditation garden, maises and manicured laberynths, and even "surprise" fountains. The resident Horticulturists proudly guide tours around the garden, often attended by Scientists, Ackademics and Botanists from all over the world. Be sure to take a walk with the ducks, or follow the fynbos hiking trails. There is a scenic natural dam and boat house, where you can go rowing. Four huge buildings make up the wine cellar, where you are welcome to view the wine making process and do some tasting. Find a shaded spot, or relax beside the deep pool, which is a most unusual and stylishly converted farm reservoir.
